Extraordinary Acheivements

Dr. Carter Singh MBE

B.Sc. (Hons), MBBS (Distinction), FRCGP, FFMLM, DRCOG, DFSRH

An inspirational and unique story of struggle and success of a young man whom we take pride in calling the “Dohtra of our Pind Kahma”.

Dr. Carter Singh was born in 1980 in Derby England. His mother, lovingly known as “Pinky”, is the daughter of Mohan Singh son of Sardar Kartar Singh and Mata Shive Kaur of Kahma. He was named in honour of his great grandfather Sardar Kartar Singh and in doing so, out of respect to Mohan Singh.  Unfortunately, soon after his birth unfavourable circumstances developed resulting in the family breakup. Consequently, this young infant and his mother Pinky became the responsibility of Sardar Mohan Singh and his wife Bibi Joginder Kaur for their wellbeing especially the education of the young boy.

The story of our dohtra becomes our pride and admiration. After the breakup of the family the ensuing effects of such a traumatic experience affected him greatly. He started thinking negatively about himself and began to receive failing grades in school and his self esteem hit the rock bottom. But, Mohan Singh and his wife Joginder Kaur (Nana Nani) left no stone unturned to boost his moral up by encouraging him not to give up as they knew at the bottom of their heart that the young boy had a great potential. Admittedly, many other friends and well wishers joined hands and supported Mohan Singh in his struggle to help this young man.

Eventually, on one lucky day he woke up and decided with great conviction that he would prove to be someone and convert all of the negative circumstances into positive ones by putting all his zeal towards his studies. After that undeterred conviction he started not only gaining good grades in school but also reaching the pinnacles in his studies. There was no turning back and he became a medical doctor with distinctions as is shown below in the academic section of his accomplishments.

He decided to dedicate his life in the service of the society and most importantly to embolden the names of his grandparents (Nani, Nani), great grandparents and especially his mother “Pinky” who have done so much for him.

The most admirable decision he made was to recognize and dedicate his gratitude for all that Sardar Mohan Singh did for him. As far as he is concerned Mohan Singh is his “Dad”. He wanted to recognize and honour Mohan Singh and decided to name his children with the middle name as “Mohan”.

Dr. Carter Singh was fully aware of his obligation to honour his mother “Pinky” who brought him to this world. As she has learning difficulties, Dr. Carter Singh felt a personal connection with his patients who have learning disabilities and has opened multiple residential homes for people with Learning Disabilities. He has also made a significant contribution during the COVID-19 pandemic in helping people from ethnic minority backgrounds.  This was one of the many reasons he received the great award of MBE.
